It
turned out to be a pleasant day as the Watseka Area Chamber of
Commerce served grilled pork burgers and hot dogs during their
annual Summer Picnic on Friday, August 11, 2006. Over 450 meals were
served, up from the 400 previously sold in 2005.
“This picnic gets bigger and better each year,” stated Darcey Smith,
Chamber Executive Director.
The
picnic took place on the lawn between Promises and Hear Here. Meals
were served from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The cost of the meal deal
was only $2.50 which included the sandwich, chips, and a drink. At
that price, lunch is affordable for everyone!
“We advertised that meals were on sale through 1:30pm. However, we
sold out of pork burgers by 1:10pm. Each year, we buy extra meat
since the number of ticket sales keep increasing. Next year, we know
to buy extra, extra meat,” stated Darcey Smith.
Following lunch, everyone was able to take advantage of the great
summer deals during Sidewalk Sales. Twelve Watseka businesses
participated in this year’s outside sales event.
The
picnic was sponsored in part by Big R, Canady Labs, First Trust &
Savings Bank, Iroquois Insurance, Main Street Gifts, Personal
Finance Company, Promises, Sheldon Health Care Center, Sugar &
Spice, Sugar Creek Care Center, Sumner National Bank,
Times-Republic, and Watseka Rehab & Health Care Center.
The Chamber wishes to thank everyone who helped sponsor, volunteer,
or donate to this year’s Summer Picnic.
